When I was younger, I wouldn't have imagined this would be my honeymoon... no make-up, cold showers, bandanas and t-shirts everyday, and 25 other people with us. My husband, Brian, had previously been to Africa to do some humanitarian work and was planning on going back. We were only dating at the time when he said, "You should come to Africa with me. It would be even better if we were married when we go!" While that wasn't the offical proposal, it definatley put things in motion. Looking back, I wouldn't change a thing. It was an awesome way to spend a honeymoon. I got to see my new husband in action, and I learned a lot about him in that time. He is EXTREMELY hard-working and he finds purpose in his life by serving and lifting others. In the 8+ years we have been together, I have seen those qualities manifested in many ways. I have no idea how I got so lucky but I'll run with it as long as he'll have me!
I have had some profound experiences in my lifetime. This is certainly one of them. Writing is a way for me to take what thoughts, feelings, and insights I've had as a result of such experiences and put them into meaningful characters and story lines. Writing a story is one thing, doing the theme of humanity justice within those stories is something entirely different. This is my ongoing challenge.
